Dr. Pete Collins

Pete Collins was born June 26, 1929 in a small town in Eastern Kentucky. His mother was a school teacher who introduced Pete at an early age to the joy of reading. Collins spent four years in the United States Air force, but went on to further his education in 1961 where he received a doctorial degree, M.D., at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He spent thirty six years practicing medicine in the town of South Shore, Kentucky. Forty five years ago - he met and fell in love with his lovely wife, Doris. The couple have four children, and are proud grandparents of five grandchildren. The family gatherings are quite numerous at the Collins' spacious twenty acres Estate in South Shore. Moreover, they're able to partake and enjoy in the frolic of the beaches and relaxation at their Summer House located in the outer Banks of North Carolina at Nags Head.

Pete's retirement enables him to dedicate himself to his love of literature at his own leisure. Over the years, he's managed to amass a modest library of volumes in poetry. To pursue his interest further, he opted to share his love of poetry with others - thus, created this poetry website in 1998. He worked long hours on the upkeep of this site and was quite diligent about maintaining a format with both rhyme and meter collective. However, in the last year, other commitments kept him quite busy as well; alas, he opted to turn his website over to me in May, 2002. Pete Collins has made many many friends here over that period and brightened up many folks lives as well. The experience is reciprocal for him as well as he states: "It has been a happy journey for me and I have met many new and true friends here."

Pete's hobbies are woodworking, computer and photography but he also finds the time to fish and enjoys boating. His passion (after poetry), lies with riding his Honda ATV through the hills of Kentucky. There, Pete is able to clear his head as he boldly devours the wind and embraces the rush of open perils that lay ahead: ....

"...you can fly with the wind or claw your way up the steepest mountain. There is no sweetness around you...once committed you brave the briars and the low hanging limbs and the ruts and rocks that attempt to throw you off course and go hell bent for leather to the top of the hill or bust through a mud hole that is waist deep. It is living on the edge that makes the heart beat faster and your nostrils flare...there is fear of the danger and yet the determination to face it and succeed. It is like sky diving or doing aerobatics in a small airplane."
