Charles Edwards Moss

Charles Edwards Moss was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee, August, 1942. His father died of an arterial disease at the age of forty; Charles was only a seven year old child at the time. Needless to say, it was a devastating loss for him throughout his childhood years, growing up without a father. Eventually, he married and raised a family of his own. He went on to attend the University of Tennessee where he earned a Doctorate degree in Education. Subsequently, he became a professor and later was promoted as Senior Associate Vice President in Business and Finance. His teaching career at the University of Tennessee lasted until his retirement in June of 2000, at the age of 58.

Moss applies his time and energies to his family and hobbies. His devotion is quite profound as he expressed to me in a note: "I retired in order to spend more time with Max (his grandchild), and to ensure that he grows up with self-confidence and compassion."

His retirement doesn't allow him to remain idle: his activities are numerous as Charles seems to possess a natural curiosity and boldness for trying things out; he writes: "I'm interested in virtually everything." Seeming to thrive on challenges and besides being an avid reader and writer, he's a collector, a mechanic who builds custom car/trucks, applies more of his learned skills in metal sculptures, electricity, plumbing and carpentry.

His writing ~

His style of writing projects a soft tone, one that reflect on his keen appreciation of life itself.

Two poems that his mother found when he was about fifteen, which belonged to his father, proved to be a great influence in his life, "Outwitted," and "The Man in the Glass."
