(Maldon Historic Township Victoria Australia)

I wish to point out something askew
For those that oppose the proposal of new.
True puritans of hard won history
Would live in their houses from the 1850's.
Modern renovation they would find defeating
Avoiding at all cost, efficient modern heating,
No electric light, by paraffin lamp lit
They prefer their outhouse over a pit.
No TV antenna dare adorn their roof
Their decaying foundation their pride and proof.
They have no lawnmower of course,
For that and transport they use their horse.
They'd tour the oceans with like minded companions
Their power boats giving many miles to the galleon.

Unbalanced and uncompromising views
Ignore that the old is preserved by the new,
Without its money and methods structures will rust
And a whole town crumbles to historical dust.

Would you sit upon your rotting porch
Or on Mt Tarrengower
To proudly gaze upon the decaying corpse
Of Maldon's finest hours?
