Does the spirit leave the body
Only upon death?

Could the spirit leave the body
During its lifetime as well?

I wonder
As I seem to be devoid of mine
Of my spirit
Briefly gone away

Sense of emptiness
Of a heart with a hole
Of something that hurts
A pain bereft of the soothing hands
Of my spirit
Of its soft words of comfort

Like the light on the street
That fails to turn on one evening
So is the peculiar feeling
Descending on my body —
Of a familiar place
But behind a shadow

And thus I remain with myself
Waiting

Knowing
That as the light
Will return to the street
So will my spirit come back
To illuminate the void in my heart
