Like the flash of an old photo machine
An awareness of my being emerges in my mind

Comes and goes

And the query remains
In its wake

“Am I being dreamt by myself
Or am I being dreamt by somebody else?”

And perhaps in my case
It works somewhat differently

Only my dreams attest to my being
But cannot demonstrate the truth of my life

Except at the end of my dreams

For only when the dream
Vanishes slowly to oblivion

And the eyelashes sweep
The last vestiges of my sleep away

The final seal of approval
To my life is lightly stamped
