I found you in the middle of nowhere
Out thumbing for a ride.
I'm not even sure you saw me
When I pulled up to your side.
I asked where you were going;
You said you didn't care.
I hit the gas and drove away;
We were headed for anywhere.
For miles we rode in silence,
With just the sound of the road.
I didn't ask you any questions.
There was nothing I needed to know.
Somehow we ended up in Vegas,
And I still didn't know your name.
When we started winning the money,
Then nothing would be the same.
What was there to lose
At that chapel on the strip.
We said "I do", like a couple of fools,
Shooting from the hip.
The money ran out, and so did you
Early on the very next day.
I didn't care that you left me there,
Stranded with no way to pay.
I hired on at the tables,
Learned all the tricks of the cards,
Knew as soon as I was able,
I'd go back to win your heart.
Some things just aren't meant to be,
And of course I know that now.
Just couldn't believe you got to me,
And today I don't know how.
Hope you're happy, wherever you are,
And I wish you all the best.
You had no money when you left,
'Cause I hid all the rest.
