The mountain and I share a bond:
I sense her joy and pain,
I live beneath her canopy
and feel no need for gain.

Right now upon this very spot
I stand with tear filled eyes.
I'll never hunt from here again
for 'Progress' broke my ties.

The 'Progress' that a man inflicts...
I feel her pain, I know,
and the mountain is devoured up
as mankind strikes each blow.

I watch from outcropped rock above
Machines still rip and tear,
It's developers against nature
and they don't seem to care.

So many days I've stood in awe
as nature played it's course
speechless from the things I saw.
Has 'Progress' no remorse?

I stand here with an aching heart:
All I can do is cry,
The mountain is no more for me;
I've come to say good-bye.
