I, along with other observant viewers and film nerds, have noticed a brief shadow of the filming helicopter at the beginning of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Some cry " blooper," but others wonder if the "mistake" had been left in by Kubrick to softly remind the audience of film's basic, multi-planed artifice - and the integral role of audience to art. Some folks claim that Tom Cruise looks directly at us in a scene in Eyes Wide Shut for the same reason – as if to say, "You know I'm acting and I know you're watching. Okay, my next line is coming up."
