Most of the toolbar icon buttons are similar to what you are used to seeing in most word processing applications.  Hover the mouse pointer over the icon for a description of its use.  The easiest method to add content is to create it in an editor on your computer prior to logging onto PoeticPortal then copy/paste it into the text edit box.  You can of course type the content directly into the edit box but this method is not as safe, convenient or as responsive as creating it as a file on your computer.

  •  To create a paragraph select/highlight the text to include then click on the toolbar Format and choose Paragraph.  A paragraph is used following a period or other punctuation to create a new empty line space.  Paragraphs can also be created by pressing the Enter key.
  • To create a new line without a space above it press the Shift+Enter keys together.
  • To italiciz a word or letter, select/highlight and press the I  button.
  • To create a letter with an accent or a copyright symbol, click on the Omega button. (left of -- Format --)
  • To create a hyperlink to a Website or email address click on the chain link icon then enter the details in the form.
  • To align text right, centre, left or justified, click on the appropriate icon near the beginning of the second line of the toolbar.
  • Use the Apply button to save any changes without closing the editor.
  • Use the Save button to save changes and close the editor window.
  • Do not use the browser Back button to get out of the HTML editor.  When a document is opened in the editor it is checked out {locked) to prevent the possibility of more than one edit session taking place at thesame time.

Other items to note:

  • Keep the layout simple.
  • Two text edit boxes are supplied however for poetry only the first one, the Intro Text box is used.
  • Unless it is deemed to be very, very important do not use fancy fonts or colours as they tend to detract from the words being presented.
  • The buttons and tabs available below the two edit boxes are for the use of and will work for administrators only.
  • Did I mention? Do not use the browser Back button to get out of the HTML editor.
