As a pendulum swings from here to there
I feel myself shift from hot to cold
As a pendulum swings from near to far
I feel myself draw closer to withdrawn
Though a pendulum is easy on the eyes
I am difficult on heart and mind
A fool who tries to be wise

As a bird may flock to find the way home
I navigate to lose myself in the crowd
As a bird is undeterred when learning to fly
I sit on a perch to stare into the unknown
Though a bird sings its sweet melody
I am too baffled to utter my own words
A fool who tries to be wise

As a pendulum swings to and fro
I sway from certainty to denial
As a pendulum swings unrestrained
I sway within my chosen boundaries
Though a pendulum can find the balance
I sway too far, too fast, too often
A fool who tries to be wise

Yearning for the balance
A fool who tries to be wise
Denying myself every chance
A fool who tries to be wise
Is not yet wise enough to appreciate the fool within
Is not yet wise enough to set the balance within
